Commence rolling your eyes after reading the headline

Kinja'd!!!

... but the review for the new Cherokee is in. They consider it half-baked, and as such, it scores too low to be recommended. Their biggest complaint? The new 9-speed automatic that Chrysler delayed the Cherokee for in the first place.

They consider it unrefined and unresponsive. That sounds like the same complaints I had with the 8-speed automatic in a Chrysler 300 V6 rental. I consider that to be the worst transmission I have ever experienced in a car. It was incredibly jerky when changing gears, and it often didn't know what gear it wanted to be in (almost like it had too many to choose from). The fact that the transmission was slow to react made things even worse.

CR also did not like the 2.4L engine choice, and I don't blame them. Nobody in their right mind should be buying a 2 ton vehicle with only 184 horsepower. They recommend getting the 3.2 V6, and I think that is sound advice.

They found the handling to not be agile, and the ride to be choppy, but that's to be expected with a CUV.

They also tested the new Mazda3, and loved it.

I drove a limited and trailhawk and I agree....with absolutely NOTHING they said about the trans or the handling. I drove it back to back against a rav4, crv and escape and it was the best driving (ride and handling) of the bunch, the transmission was...well...just there it didn't call attention to itself at all. I thought the interior was the best interior of a domestic car (aside from a Cadillac) I've ever sat in. I've heard the 2.4 is a dog though and to be avoided, we had the 3.2 and it moved.

I had the same experience in the trailhawk that I drove. It was well handling and the transmission didn't call attention to itself in my drive.

I've seen one or two around my town, they actually look pretty good in person. I figured they'd be hideous but they're actually quite nice.

The worst thing I've heard about the 9 spd is that 9th gear is really only there for marketing purposes, or if you're coasting down a steep hill @ 80+ mph.

Sounds like the tow package is a must on one of these, due to slightly lower final drive gearing.

She bought the Patriot, wasn't this the most hated Jeep ever? I would listen to her advice...

I have a feeling you're mistaking it for the Jeep Compass, but here's why she bought the Patriot:

She wanted a daily driver that could go a bit off road, and have room for her equipment.

The top are the Daytime running lights, the middle are the headlight, and the bottom are the fog lights.

Damn. I had never seen those middle lights before. I was always kinda wondering "how can they see in the dark with those slanted lights like that, they are so thin"...now I know. Thanks!
